The pH value indicates the acidity (alkalinity) of the water.
The pH is a measure of the acidic or basic character of an aqueous solution.
The measurement of the pH is one of the most important measurements in the aquarium. It is extremely important to compare the pH value with other measurements on other days at the same time as the temperature fluctuates considerably during the day (eg by lighting).
The pH value in the aquarium should be kept as constant as possible. One possibility is to stabilize the KH in the range between 7-10 ° dH. The alkalinity (KH) buffers the pH and avoids strong pH fluctuations.
For a seawater aquarium a pH value between 8.2 and 8.4 is optimal. The GIESEMANN pH test has been specially developed for this measuring range in seawater aquariums.
