Nitrate ( NO3 ) is a chemical nitrogen compound and contains, as an essential ingredient, nitrogen, which is of particular importance as a nutrient for corals. Too high concentrations of nitrogen, however, lead to over-fertilization and thus to increased algae growth.
Nitrogen, however, is required by all living beings for growth, hence the right concentration of nitrogen and therefore nitrate, is particularly important for an aquarium.
The optimal value for nitrate is between 1mg / l and 10mg / l in the aquarium. The GIESEMANN nitrate test is designed with its very fine lower measuring range especially for reef aquariums with a coral reeled. In natural seawater, the nitrate concentrations are only in the range of 0.01-0.5 mg / l. Short polyps (SPS) in the seawater aquarium should ideally be maintained between 1.0 and 2.0 mg / l for nitrate levels.
Due to its particularly precise measuring range of up to 4mg / l, the GIESEMANN Nitrate Test is primarily aimed at owners of coral reef aquariums with coral corals and other nitrate sensitive corals.
